Former interior minister and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) İstanbul deputy Abdulkadir Aksu said on Thursday that Turkish schools abroad serve as islands of peace, adding that he is looking forward to this year’s Turkish Language Olympiads.
Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) Chairman Rıza Nur Meral voiced his disappointment on Friday over the decision by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), which tries to attract voters with promises of democracy, more human rights, increased rule of law and reforms to gain EU membership, to block access to Twitter.
Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Sultan Rayev attended the Turkish Language Olympics’ eliminations in his country. Rayev in his statements said, “Theses schools are of golden value to us. In fact, even more than that as gold mines will be exhausted sooner or later but knowledge won’t.”
With only a few months remaining before the 12th Turkish Language Olympiads, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has sent a message to Turkish ambassadors and diplomats serving abroad ordering them not to attend the overseas selections phase of the Olympiads, according to diplomatic sources.
In her remarks following the meeting, Sanchez hailed the schools for their achievements. “I attended the Turkish Language Olympics’ the Philippines finals on Feb. 26. I witnessed your sincerity and efforts there too. You are teaching not only academics but friendship, peace and solidarity as well,” she said
Independent deputies who attended the Pakistani leg of the annual International Turkish Olympiads, held in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad on Monday evening, have praised the event, stating that the event itself is the best response to unpleasant voices against the Hizmet movement.
The students and teachers, who represented Austria in 11th Turkish Language Olympiads organized by International Turkish Language Education Association (TURKCEDER) were received by the Austrian President Heinz Fischer at the presidential palace. The olympiad team briefed the president on the language and culture event, during their visit. Fischer congratulated the team for receiving two medals in the event.
