Senegalese Education Minister: I will send my daughter to Turkish schools

DAKAR
The Senegalese Minister of Education Mbaye Thiam paid a visit to Yavuz Sultan Selim Schools, founded by Turkish entrepreneurs and recognized highly across the country. Thiam said the schools, which produce champions annually in the nationwide university entrance exams, have had an indisputable success to date across the country.
The minister said the schools also introduced Turkey to Senegalese people. “I would like to send my daughter to these schools next year. The other private and public schools alike should take these schools as role models.”
Following a conference on health and hygiene at school environment, jointly organized by Cheikh Anta Diop University and Yavuz Selim Schools, the minister took a tour at Sultan School for Girls.
Established in 1997 by Turkish entrepreneurs, Yavuz Selim Schools currently offer education to over 2,000 students.

The closure of Yavuz Selim schools isn’t just a blow for its students, but also for the state of education in Senegal, a country where about one-third of children remain out of school. The schools had a reputation for excellence, ranking for years among Senegal’s best. Students got top scores in national exams, and went on to study at international universities.

Turkish humanitarian NGO has cured 30,000 cataract sufferers
Kimse Yok Mu, a Turkish NGO delivering humanitarian aid around the world, has so far cured 30,180 people suffering from cataracts in Sudan, Chad, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo and Niger as of September 2014. Kimse Yok Mu reaches out to tin houses of South Africa
Kimse Yok Mu recently distributed the Ramadan aid donated by Turkish people in tin house neighborhoods of South Africa. Children were too overjoyed by candy and balloon treats distributed as a part of the aid under the auspices of Johannesburg Horizon Turkish School. In addition to the aid packages for tin house neighborhoods, some five hundred locals are being hosted daily at iftar dinners at ground level halls of Nizamiye Mosque.
