The Peace Islands Institute’s 5th Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Award

The outstanding contribution of law enforcement officers was recognized at an award ceremony in Morristown, New Jersey.
The Peace Islands Institute’s 5th Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Award united community members with law enforcement personnel.
According to Aaron Ford Special Agent in Charge with the FBI, such events and community input really help officers do a better job.
Among the recipients was Special Agent Daniel Garrabrant who was awarded for his rescue of victims of human trafficking and slavery.
Deputy Chief US Attorney in New Jersey Caroline Sadlowski was also awarded for her role in establishing a program that facilitates the transition of convicted felons after incarceration.
The Peace Islands Institute is a non-profit organization that unites different points of view in an atmosphere of mutual respect and acceptance, while fostering better insights into social problems.

Several state legislators who attended the dinner have gone on one of the three trips the Turkish Cultural Center has organized for lawmakers to visit Turkey. There also are educational ties between Maine and Turkey.
The Gülen Movement in the public sphere
The Abant Platform is a good example of a religiously inspired social capital formation in a society with ideological, ethnic and religious fault lines. This platform departs from a belief that religion, and particularly Islam, can be a positive factor in social, political and economic life. The Gülen movement has been quite successful in utilizing its cultural and human capital in order to empower the civil society and expand the democratic space available for the formally excluded periphery vis-à-vis the centre.
