During the Islamic holiday of “Eid al-Adha” from October 15th-18th, 2013, the Peace Islands Institute (PII) paid visits to local Food Pantries with legislators to donate fresh meat to celebrate the eid so as to serve our NJ community, by remembering the poor during this holy season.

Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) is the time when Muslims sacrifice an animal, in remembrance of Forefather Abraham, to donate most of its meat to the needy. It is a festival with many social aspects: the pilgrimage, the sacrifice of an animal, remembering and helping the needy, and the reunion of visiting relatives, friends, and neighbors.

Johnson (District 37), and Assembly Speaker Asw. Sheila Y. Oliver and Asm. Thomas P. Giblin (District 34) joined the PII in this sacred effort.

Asm. Thomas P. Giblin (District 34) underlined the extreme generosity of the Peace Islands Institute during the observance of Eid al Adha and noted that this  demonstrated great community spirit and willingness to help families in need”
