I strongly condemn the brutal terrorist attack Monday on the metro in St. Petersburg, Russia, which cost the lives of 11 people and injured dozens more.
Words fail to express my sorrow at the loss of innocent lives and suffering of their loved ones. I share my deepest condolences with the victims’ families and the people of Russia. I wish for the quick recovery of the wounded.
I reiterate my unconditional condemnation of this and other acts of violence that inflict pain on innocent people. This is an attack not only against the people of Russia but also against humanity. We should all stand in solidarity as members of the human family against such deplorable acts of terrorism.
I pray to God, the Most Compassionate, to lead humanity to a world of peace and tranquility.
Erdogan at UN urges global action against preacher
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday demanded at UN speech international action against the US-exiled preacher Fethullah Gulen, whom he accuses of orchestrating an aborted coup d’etat against him. Gulen, who fled Turkey for Pennsylvania and has been active in religious dialogue and charity, strongly denies Erdogan’s charges that he organized the July military coup attempt, which quickly collapsed.

Ataturk’s Turkey was rural and only 10 percent of the country was literate at the time, with most educated people supporting his agenda. Erdogan’s Turkey is 80 percent urban and nearly 100 percent literate, and many well-educated Turks oppose his agenda.
Turkey’s Witch-Hunt Against the Gülen Movement Should Stop
The relationship between AKP and Hizmet fell apart in late 2013 after allegations of corruption were made against the Erdogan government by an allegedly “parallel structure” within the state and supposed shadow fifth column controlled by the Gülen Movement.
