Journalists and Writers Foundation to discuss girls’ education in Afghanistan

The Journalists and Writers Foundation (GYV) is due to hold a panel on the topic of education of Afghan girls, in New York City on March 18.
The panel will be held within the framework of the 58th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, which will be dedicated to the Afghanistan’s struggles and progress toward educating girls. They will consider global political efforts to improve the education of girls, specifically how public and private institutes might enable the girls to pursue and complete their education. In addition, the panel will host various experts who have been studying the educational situation of girls in Afghanistan.
Two speakers joining the panel as United Nations representatives will talk about the projects and brief the audience about the educational targets established by the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). GYV is also planning to sponsor an educational project to contribute to Afghan-Turkish colleges in Afghanistan.
The Journalists and Writers Foundation (GYV) organized a number of activities in Turkey to mark the Annual Global Dignity Day, which is celebrated with Global Dignity-led events around the world with the participation of 350.000 young people across 50 countries.
US Human Rights Report: Tens of thousands jailed in Turkey with little clarity on charges
The 2016 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices — the Human Rights Reports — released by the US State Department on Friday said that Turkish courts had imprisoned tens of thousands of people with little clarity on charges and evidence over their alleged links with a failed coup in July 2016 that was blamed on the Gülen movement.
Turkey’s Wrong Turn
The tensions erupted into the open last month with a corruption probe that led to the resignation of four government ministers and threatened to ensnare Mr. Erdogan’s family. The government has since purged hundreds of police officials and prosecutors and sought to assert control over the judiciary. It also drafted legislation expanding the government’s power to appoint judges and prosecutors, further breaching judicial independence, and has prevented journalists from reporting freely.

Call for paper for “International Family Policy Conference”
The Journalists and Writers Foundation is organizing the third international family conference, “International Family Policies”, in order to analyze different kind of legal formulations to protect family as an “institution” across different countries. Conference aims to prioritize policy-oriented articles together with academic and descriptive ones.
Dialogue and Friendship Dinner in Portland, Oregon
On November 13th, 2013, Pacifica Institute’s Portland chapter held its 5th Annual Dialogue and Friendship Dinner having the author-journalist Mustafa Akyol as its keynote speaker. The dinner was attended by Turkish and American academics and businessmen. In his keynote speech centered on his book “Islam without Extremes,” Mustafa Akyol pointed out the fact that Islam is misrepresented.
