Kimse Yok Mu organizes international cartoon competition: ‘Refugees’

Turkish charity organization Kimse Yok Mu has organized an international cartoon competition titled “refugees” in order to raise awareness of the difficulties facing migrants who fled their homelands and set out on dangerous journeys to Europe.
“We hereby invite all artists who want to draw attention to the refugee problem with their drawings to our cartoon competition,” the announcement on the organization’s website states.
The Samanyolu online news portal reported on Thursday that 1,250 people applied to the competition before its deadline on Jan. 29 and that a jury made up of famous cartoonists such as Tan Oral, İbrahim Özdabak, Muammer Kotbaş and Rudy Gyhesens would be evaluating the candidates’ cartoons on Feb. 4 at the Marmara office of Kimse Yok Mu. The results will be announced on Feb. 8.

Prominent Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen on Tuesday withdrew a complaint of libel against a housewife who had insulted him with treason in one of her tweets but later apologized, saying she had been influenced by the language of the political leadership.

Authorities of Cocody ve Port-Bouët, two municipalities in Abidjan, Ivory Coast’s capital of business, hailed Kimse Yok Mu for its aid efforts.

Kimse Yok Mu Foundation continues its efforts to meet the water, hot meal, clothing and medication needs in Somalia, stricken with terror and famine. The foundation’s school in the capital Mogadishu and scholarships too are aimed at securing a better future for Somalis.

The civil war-stricken Somalia receives yet another helping hand extending from Turkey’s Kutahya province. A volunteer group of medical specialists recently went to the troubled African country to provide medical assistance particularly to pediatric patients. Kutahya Chamber of Pharmacists Chair, Mehmet Hakan Akcan, reported that, with a team of seven medical specialists and several professionals, they had been to Somalian capital Mogadishu in order to provide medical assistance to the locals in need.

Japanese students assist Syrian refugees in Turkey
A group of Japanese university students and professors recently came to Turkey to provide educational assistance to Syrian refugees, according to Turkish news sources on Tuesday. The volunteer group, which came to Turkey through the agency of charity Kimse Yok Mu, consisted of 15 students and professors from Meiji Gakuin University.
