Turkish opposition deputy: Women jailed with children are treated like enemies

Sezgin Tanrıkulu, a deputy from Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), said on Monday that despite human rights law in the country, over 700 small children are in jail with their mothers, who are treated like enemies.
According to the CHP deputy, who expressed his view in a Twitter broadcast on human rights violations in Turkey, at no other time in Turkish history have women been detained and arrested with their children in such high numbers.
Tanrıkulu said the judiciary treats these women as if they were enemies in war and called for the release of the jailed women and their small children.
Most of these women are in pre-trial detention due to their real or alleged links to the faith-based Gülen movement, which the regime in Turkey holds responsible for a failed coup in July 2016.

In a recent press conference, Ambassador Devrim Öztürk claimed that some Turkish nationals in Dhaka, in particular those working at the Turkish Hope School, were involved with what he called the Gülenist Terror Organisation (FETÖ). Radikal said the only criteria in these purges is the “parallel state,” a term the government uses to define those bureaucrats known to favor the Hizmet movement, which is a grassroots movement based on voluntary participation to spread interfaith dialogue and tolerance with a particular emphasis on education.
Kimse Yok Mu and UN launch relief project for Syrian refugees
UN funded 3,5 million Turkish Liras (around 1,75 million USD) to the project while KYM will organize the delivery of the money to the bank accounts of 17000 Syrian refugees in amount of TL 100 throughout January and February.
Speaking about their commonly organized project with UNHCR, Head of KYM’s İstanbul office Celal Türkoğlu stated that they are frequently in touch with the UN while KYM is accredited to the UN’s Economic and Social Council.

The Journalists and Writers Foundation (GYV) has responded to a series of controversial claims and slanderous accusations made about the Hizmet movement which the foundation said are designed to pit the government against the movement and create tension between the two. Releasing a statement on Tuesday, the foundation felt an obligation to respond to the allegations as a sign of respect for the public’s right to be informed.
