Philippine House speaker receives Turkish school delegation

PHILIPPINES
Feliciano Belmonte, speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives, received in his office Malik Gencer, general manager of Fountain Schools, Ferhat Kazkondu, president of Pacific Dialogue Foundation and Merve Ozkan, Turkish Olympics coordinator in the Philippines.
The delegation members briefed Belmonte on the Turkish school’s activities and the language olympics. Belmonte said, “With the schools you’ve opened here, you gave us the opportunity to get to know Turks and their culture better.”
The delegation invited the speaker to the Philippines finals of the Turkish Olympics on Feb. 26. Belmonte hailed the olympics and said, “These events bringing together diverse languages, faiths and cultures show us differences do not matter but the love in our hearts does. Its contribution to the global peace is priceless.”
At the end of the meeting, the delegation presented a Kutahya porcelain plate to the speaker, as a memento of the day.

Turkey’s president orders closure of 1,000 private schools linked to Gülen
Turkey’s president has signed a decree that allows for the extension of the pre-charge detention period and the closure of institutions linked to Fethullah Gülen, the exiled cleric blamed for masterminding last weekend’s failed military coup.
‘Gülen movement has a specific mission’
… If the [Fethullah] Gülen movement were a small, ineffective community, the AKP would never have disturbed it. Or if the Gülen movement had acted in full cooperation with the government, such a conflict wouldn’t have occurred. But the Gülen movement has a specific mission. What is that mission? They seek to obtain the pleasure of God by leading good religious lives and engaging in educational and social services.

He further accentuated the significant role that intercultural activities will play in boosting Turkish-Palauan bilateral relations. He also expressed his willingness to have Palauan student participate in the coming Turkish Language Olympics.
