D.C. Group Holds Annual Peace and Dialogue Dinner in Albemarle

A group focused on spreading peace shared its mission with some community leaders Thursday night in Albemarle County.
The Rumi Forum held its Annual Peace and Dialogue Dinner at the Doubletree Hotel.
Senator Creigh Deeds was the keynote speaker. He addressed issues from sequestration to the importance of discussing cultural differences.
The Rumi Forum president says he hopes the dinner will bridge cultural gaps.
“The gist of it is to bring people that don’t know one another around the table and to meet with one another, have a nice meal and hopefully that will be a catalyst for further social interaction beyond the actual dinner,” said Emre Celik, president of the Rumi Forum.
Charlottesville Vice Mayor Kristin Szakos gave the final remarks of the night.
Gülen not only my hero, also a model for other religions
“He is not only my hero for what he has done for the Muslim societies but also [offers] a model for all other religions,” said Dirk Ficca, executive director of the Chicago-based Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions.
Hundreds celebrate Clifton’s diversity at festival
Yesilova prepared rich Turkish coffee for those who stopped by a table for the Turkish Cultural Center at the festival, which took place at Clifton High School. The event, which featured food and performances from around the world, was part of more than a year-long commemoration of Clifton’s 100th anniversary.

The sacrificial festival is a time for wishing one another well, exchanging gifts, having big feasts, donating and praying.
The turnout for the event was spectacular thanks to our distinguished guests who were legislators, peace activists, policy advisers, community leaders, and academicians from a variety of fields.
