…The counterbalancing, both modern and traditional attitudes of scholars like Ahmed Abbadi, president of League of Moroccan Ulama, who calls attentions to the facts that Morocco has never come under the rule of any pride-motivated power since the Umayyad; the Ottomans established an everlasting relation here based on mutual respect that dates back to caliphate having its roots in Prophet Muhammad (pbuh); it disseminates a tolerant Islamic understanding throughout a vast area ranging from Andalusia to Nigeria; Moroccans, who recognize thoughts and value the individual as much as they do the state and who have no hidden agenda; are Ash’ari in belief, Maliki in practice and unanimous in opting for Cuneydi Bagdadi’s interpretation; have a significant role in the country’s current success.

The same prevalent attitude is also evident in the locals’ interest towards Hizmet Movement. The movement enjoys a high interest among not only scholars and intellects, but high profile statesmen as well. It is known that the King Muhammad VI earlier invited the Honorable Gulen to ulama lessons in his presence at the palace. Morocco is among the first Arab countries where Turkish schools were established. The nation’s prominent scholars like Prof. Abbadi are closely following Fethullah Gulen, a religious scholar, who, with a civilization, individual and education-centered approach -rather than a political one- based on tolerance, offers the most effective cures for the Muslim world. The narrative book entitled “Return of Cavaliers” on Fethullah Gulen’s life and Hizmet by the late, prominent Moroccan scholar, Farid al-Ansari, has been enjoying a large popularity not only in Morocco but in the greater Arab world, in search for a new direction, as well.

While we are on Morocco’s distinctive profile in the Arab world, it needs to be brought to attention of those having difficulty in understanding Hizmet -as is seen in prep course debate- that a substantial volume of literature on Hizmet have been formed in the Western and Muslim world.

Fethullah Gulen on attempts to associate Hizmet with terrorism and ISIS

Fethullah Gulen: As I have stated earlier, I have long called ISIS, al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, Murabitun, and many other organizations terrorist, maybe fifty times. And I have said a Muslim cannot be a terrorist; a Muslim can never engage in terrorism.

Intellectual deviations

Mahçupyan’s analysis of the Hizmet movement’s perspective on the Kurdish issue is wrong. When the settlement process was launched, the Hizmet movement announced its full support for the solution, with Gülen saying, “Peace is in itself goodness, and peace brings happiness.” It advocated non-violent social actors competing with each other freely and under democratic conditions. It openly declared that the right to education in one’s mother tongue is one of the fundamental human rights.

Gülen’s lawyer files lawsuit over unlawful police probe into Hizmet

Nurullah Albayrak, lawyer for Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, has filed a lawsuit against a police chief who issued a written order to 30 provinces to launch a sweeping campaign into the faith-based Hizmet movement on what Albayrak says are trumped-up charges.

Turkey, ‘The Devil’s Advocate’ and ‘Titanic’

Questions to challenge the primary and unjustified premise: What judicial (or other) process determined that these corruption investigations were a coup attempt against the government? What proof or evidence do you have to support this most serious claim? What disciplinary process did you undertake to determine that the people that were purged were members and culprits of this ‘coup’? In the absence of evidence and disciplinary process how did you determine these people’s association with Hizmet? When is government corruption not a judicial coup? How can you have the right to unilaterally determine the intent and purpose of these ongoing judicial investigations when your government is implicated in them? If your government can purge over 7,000 police officers (and thereby affect and prevent these investigations) without evidence, due process or disciplinary procedure, do you not set a precedent for every future potentially corrupt government to follow?

Erdoğan and Gülen: The Marriage of Convenience

Religiously, the Gülen Movement both reflects the long tradition of Turkish Sufi brotherhoods, and Gülen’s own emphasis on societal change through education, humanitarian activism, and interfaith dialogue. Gülen never sympathized with, or adopted, the AKP’s more conservative form of political Islam.

Gülen: Despite differences in method peace process in Kurdish issue should be supported

Yet another show of support for Turkey’s ongoing settlement process — aiming to end the decades-old bloodshed in the country — has been voiced, this time from Turkish-Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, who said some people might oppose the government’s method of solving the settlement process but for the sake of peace the process should be […]
