Fethullah Gülen’s Statement of Condolences for Florida High School Shooting

I am deeply saddened by the tragic shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, that took the lives of 17 people, including teachers and students.
It is heartbreaking to see such a tragedy take place at a school, which should provide a safe environment in which students can learn. We should treat such incidents as reminders to our society for self examination and for identifying and eliminating the conditions that lead a young person to engage in horrifying acts of violence. We should strive to provide a climate of love, respect, and compassion to all of our children and nurture an inclusive mindset.
I express my deepest condolences to all those who lost their loved ones during this tragedy, and to the people of Florida. I pray to God, the Most Compassionate, to provide comfort for the parents who lost their children and to lead our society to days of peace and tranquility.
“Yes, I am very pleased,” Annise Parker, mayor of Houston, told me. “The community of Turks, here in particular, are very outward, extroverted and curious in a sense of cultural understanding. I wish the others, too, would be like them. They contribute a lot to our prosperity and future and teach us a lot about where they come from, Turkey.”
Symposium concludes: Hizmet movement contributes to world peace
Professors said that Hizmet is an anti-violence group that uses education and dialogue to achieve its goals. Dr. Amidu Olalekan Sanni, Lagos State University, Nigeria: “I think the Hizmet group has been very influential in terms of human development, basically in the area of education and health. The first Hizmet university is actually based in the Nigerian capital of Abuja.”
Erdogan, Gulen Combat Islamophobia, Extremism
The main factor fueling Islamophobia in the West is extremist elements in the Muslim world. But non-extremist Muslims as well as religious leaders representing and interpreting Islam also have a share in the problem. Muslim religious leaders, for instance, fail to stand up against extremism as strongly as necessary. A major exception in this regard is a person from Turkey: Fethullah Gulen.
Reflections on my first trip to TÜRKIYE
Last week I had the pleasure of accompanying a group of Jewish community leaders on a Niagara Foundation sponsored trip to Türkiye (Turkey). Our mission: to provide the group with windows into the Jewish experience in Turkey. One of the trip participants would describe this as, “not a Jewish trip to Turkey but a group of Jewish people traveling to Turkey.”
