Students from Turkish schools in Romania impress in the “First Step” science project competition.

A total of 329 have competed in the competition, presenting 245 projects in the categories of energy, environment, design and interactive learning.
With a high number of successful projects on display, the experts forming the jury had a tough time picking the winners. A total of 75 students received awards, worth € 8.000 each.
One notable contestant was, Yasemin Gerea, the daughter of Romanian Economy Minister Andrei Gerea, who along with her friend Deniz Erol represented their model rollercoaster in the competition.
Expressing that they have prepared their project by spending 5 to 6 hours in a day, Yasemin Gerea said “We wanted people to know more about internal structure of a roller coaster. The project costs €40.”
Attending prize-giving ceremony, Andrei Gerea congratulated Turkish schools for their contribution to Romania’s education system. “It should not be forgotten that education is the guarantee of future and the base of innovations of our life, which make easier,” she added.
The successful projects succeed in the competition will represent Romania in an international science and technology competition.

Turkey’s Education Ministry has decided to destroy at least 216,233 copies of math and science textbooks published by publishing houses affiliated with the Gülen movement, according to Hürriyet daily.

In another instance of a government-orchestrated operation targeting the faith-based Gülen movement, popularly known as the Hizmet movement, the police along with inspectors conducted raids around 6 am on Tuesday at dozens of institutions owned by the Yamanlar Educational Institutions, which was established by volunteers of the movement in the western province of İzmir.

“If they close your homes, you should open dorms. If they close your dorms, you will open new homes. If they close your schools, you will respond by opening a university. And when they close your university, you should open ten schools. You should never stop marching,” Gülen said in a video that was posted at Herkül.org, a website close to the movement.

The situation in Georgia illustrates the challenge for Turkish diplomats. A few days after the July 15 coup attempt, a translation of a TV interview began circulating that featured Yasin Temizkan, Turkey’s consul in the city of Batumi. In the interview, Temizkan urged the Georgian government to close the local Refaiddin Şahin Friendship School, a private institution considered part of the Gülen network. The justification, Temizkan said, was that the school was “serving terrorist groups.”

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaye, has said that the Nigerian students who were arrested in Turkey for an alleged role in the July coup attempt in Turkey may have been paying for the refusal of the Nigerian government to shut down some Turkish schools and institutions in Nigeria.
