Students from the private Turkish school Pioneer Academy of Science were granted the prize of the best robot design in a competition in New York last week. Ninety-five schools participated in the competition FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) displaying designs of robots.

At the end of the competition, the team from the Pioneer Academy of Science, including Sinan Şahin, Ali Sinan Çiftçi, Bünyanin Yusuf Konuk, Hilal Bulur, Hilal Tekin, Mücteba Gürcanlı and Zeynep Hale Teken was awarded the prize for best robot design. The FTC is considered by many schools in the US to be among the most important competitions for the young.

Şahin, one of the team members, told reporters that they worked and studied hard for the competition. “We had to finish our design in a limited time using technology such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to meet the expectations of the jury,” said Şahin.

The team will participate in another competition on Feb. 9. Fatih Çeliç, the team’s coach, said that they aim to receive an award from the upcoming competition as well. “Our students are very hard-working and they are doing their best to win the competition,” added Çeliç.

Arriving at Dambovitsa village, 45 kilometers away from Bucharest, students from 42 different nations went to the houses of the people and gave them aid boxes.

Pak-Turk schools hold graduates moot

The school administration believes that the action is taken to appease Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who believes that the school promotes and teaches his arch-rival and cleric Fetullah Gulen’s teachings. “We have gone through the school curriculum during our time and have not found them imparting any extremism ideology or anything that goes against the interests of Pakistan,” said one of the graduates.

Understanding of Muslims in US is limited, says scholar

“Part of what we are doing involves interfaith work,” says Turk, and he brings up the role of the Pacifica Institute in California that does similar work in accordance with the teachings of Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen. “The same values are taught by Gülen,” Turk says, and adds that students from the Gülen-inspired Hizmet movement attend Bayan Claremont as well. “We are educating the next generation of Islamic scholars and community leaders,” Turk says.

Champion of YGS university exam from Hizmet-affiliated FEM prep courses

The champion of this year’s Higher Education Exam (YGS) university entrance examination, Oğuz Türkyılmaz, who prepared for the exam with the Hizmet movement-affiliated FEM University Preparation School in Malatya, says he owes most of his success to his prep school teachers.
