Kyrgyz court overturns extradition of suspected Gülenists to Turkey

A Kyrgyzstan court on Tuesday overturned a decision by the country’s Prosecutor General’s Office to extradite two people to Turkey to face charges of membership of the banned Gülen movement, The Diplomat reported.
Turkey’s government accuses the Gülen movement of carrying out a coup attempt in 2016. Turkish authorities have jailed thousands of members of the group, which was formerly allied to the ruling party, but is now banned as a terrorist organisation, and has launched a campaign to track down and return Gülenists abroad.
The Diplomat said Senan Yılmaz and Sanjar Abdulhakim were employees of the Sapat school network linked to the movement and were being held in pre-trial detention.
During a visit to Kyrgyzstan in September, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan urged the Kyrgyz government to crack down on suspected Gülenists. He said the movement had infiltrated the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry and military and said it could attempt a coup in Kyrgyzstan as well.
Dismissed after coup attempt, teacher detained during visit to imprisoned relative
Malatya teacher C.K., earlier dismissed from his/her post as part of the government’s post-coup purge, was taken into custody during a visit to his/her jailed relative on Saturday.

Speaking at the conference, GYV Secretary-General Hüseyin Hurmalı said that the GYV has been working voluntarily both in the US and across the globe to establish peace and dialogue. “We have tried to eliminate prejudices and wrong ideas about Turkey, we know that it is important for Turkey to enter into a process of peace and development,” Hurmalı added.
