Date posted: July 9, 2017
Turkish teacher Fatma Ozturk was detained just after she gave birth to her baby at Ege Umut Hospital in Manisa’s Turgutlu district while police handcuffed her to a bed she is resting on.
Police detained Ozturk over her alleged links to the Gulen movement, which the government accuses of masterminding the July 15, 2016 coup attempt. The group denies the accusation.
An anonymous tip submitted to magduriyetler.com, police raided Ege Umut Hospital in Turgutlu and handcuffed Ozturk to the bed just after she delivered her baby.
The tip said police await at hospital entrance and that mother and baby’s health condition remain serious.
“There is no chance of getting a lawyer,” the tip also underlined.

In controversial move Parliament votes to shut down prep schools
The removal of prep schools, however, remains an unsettled dispute, with opponents to the bill saying that without eliminating standardized testing for university entrance, the move will only serve to hamper the poorer high school students’ plans to attend universities, as socioeconomic disparity shows itself in exam results.
Thousands Are In Turkish Prisons For Downloading This App
The government announced that at least 250,000 people downloaded ByLock on their cell phones. Even tracking this number is a violation of the law, but… oh well, who cares, right?
