Teacher jailed with 3-day-old baby released only to house arrest with ankle bracelet

Aysun Aydemir, an English teacher who was jailed with her three-day-old baby on Monday, has been released only to house arrest with an electronic bracelet on her ankle.
Aydemir was detained three days after she gave birth to a baby in an elective caesarean procedure at a Zonguldak hospital as part of an investigation into the Gulen movement, on May 15. Police took her into custody from the hospital despite the fact that she was barely able to walk due to the surgery.
The judge overseeing Aydemir’s case put her in pre-trial detention along with her newborn baby the same day.
According to main opposition Republican Peoples’ Party’s (CHP) Zonguldak deputy Serafettin Turpcu, the judge turned her pre-trial detention into house arrest with Aydemir confined to his home with an electronic ankle tracking bracelet.

Why Erdoğan exploits anti-American sentiments
With dangerous and discriminatory language, PM Erdoğan exploits anti-American and anti-Israeli sentiment in Turkish society to demonize his opponents. Can Erdoğan win this game? If Erdoğan were confident enough about the corruption case, maybe he could. Instead of letting justice run its proper course, he used his political power to intervene in the judiciary and police forces. This must be considered the most important indicator of his fall.
Corruption investigation: Questions that will hound PM Erdoğan
Everyone is wondering now what is behind the corruption investigation, and the first “suspect” to come to many minds is the Islamist Gülen movement. Tensions between this group and the AKP have been rising over the years, and boiled over recently due to the prep-school issue – a matter that has received wide media coverage.
The Gülen movement denies this but the vitriol flying between daily Zaman, which is close to Gülen, and Yeni Şafak, which is staunchly pro-AKP, is enough to give one a sense of the bitter struggle involved.
