Turkish teacher who was denied medical aid after harsh treatment, dies under custody.
Gokhan Acikkolu was a teacher of history. As many people, he was detained on charge of being Gulen Fallower on July 23,2016. He died under police custody. He died without even knowing what he was accused of.
Fell sick over diabetes and harsh treatment the teacher was taken to a hospital. Doctors declared him well and sent him back to custody. Several days later, badly wounded and seriously ill teacher died under custody,
He was denied a funeral service because he was declared “ a traitor”. His father said that ‘My kid was a honorable, proud person. Probably due to his pride he was unable to bear the insult and suffered a heart attack. He was diabetic. It is like banana republic here. We can not claim our rigths. We can not say anything. Out of no reason our kid was branded a traitor. We did nothing wrong.’
Faces of Manisa prisoners rendered unrecognizable due to torture, lawyer says
The faces of people held in a Manisa prison have become unrecognizable due to heavy torture, Seda Tanrıkulu, a lawyer representing some of the prisoners, told the Turkish media. “When I met with prisoners, there were bruises on the face of D.K., made by the boots of officials,” Tanrıkulu said.
PM Erdoğan once defended Hizmet, said it was Feb. 28 [military coup] victim
Prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has recently accused the faith-based Hizmet movement inspired by Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen of cooperating with coup perpetrators during the Feb. 28, 1997 post-modern coup era, defended the same movement at a parliamentary coup commission in 2012, when he said the movement’s followers had been victimized during the coup.
Turkey’s development agency spying on Gülen followers in Latin America
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) has been spying on Gulen followers in the Latin American countries. TIKA’s Colombia coordinator, Mehmet Özkan has admitted that the agency has been reporting the activities of Gulen movement in the Latin American countries to Turkey and Turkish embassies across the continent.

Prominent Turkish novelist and recipient of the 2006 Nobel Prize in literature, Orhan Pamuk, has criticized the government’s large-scale crackdown in the aftermath of the failed July 15 coup, warning that Turkey is heading toward “a regime of terror.” “In Turkey, we are dramatically putting behind bars all those who struggle for freedom of expression, and criticize the government even slightly,” Pamuk said on Sunday.
Nigeria – Our students should not be victims of Turkey’s high-handedness and authoritarianism
We strongly condemn the arrest, detention and deportation of some Nigerian students from Turkey’s capital city, Istanbul, over the botched coup in the country. The harassment and intimidation of our students by the Turkish Government over a matter that does not concern them is undiplomatic and utterly reprehensible. The Turkish government should not visit the punishment for the alleged actions of its political enemies on innocent Nigerian students.
