Fethullah Gulen’s Condemnation and Condolences Message on Istanbul Terrorist Attack

The cruelty of terrorism that we have witnessed numerous times before showed its ugly face again in Istanbul on January 12th. I strongly condemn this brutal terrorist attack that targeted tourists visiting Turkey.

Just like the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent people in Mali, Beirut, Paris, and Baghdad recently, History will record this attack as  another stab at the heart of our common humanity.

I extend my deepest condolences to the loved ones of the victims, especially to German and Peruvian people, and pray for patience for them, and for the fast recovery of the wounded.

On this sad occasion I remind world Muslims to condemn all acts of terror unconditionally, especially the murders that are committed under a false banner of religion. I ask God the most Merciful to deliver humanity to days where peace and tranquility reign around the globe. It should never be forgotten that, as the noble Qur’an (5:32) teaches us  “Whoever kills an innocent person…it is as though he has killed all humankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all humankind.”

In such a climate, the Abant Platform organized [a Gulen Movement affiliated organization] a three-day-long meeting by Lake Abant over the weekend, bringing representatives from the Alevi and Sunni community. Personally, I learned a lot from the meeting which almost served as a channel for venting for Alevis.

Extraditing Gulen and other dark conspiracies

Despite his pressures, Turkish prosecutors have not agreed to write an indictment against Gulen. On the other hand, Gulen has already been tried in absentia between 1999-2008 for all the accusations now recycled and repeated by Erdogan. The Kemalist military establishment was very powerful at the time and they were almost in full control of the state but they still could not produce concrete evidence against Gulen.

Critics of the ruling AKP expect it to sell Gulen-linked companies to government allies in the business world at a large discount. In mid-October the AKP-linked Metro Holding applied to the TMSF to acquire all of Koza Ipek Holding’s shares. Akin Ipek, the fugitive former owner of the conglomerate, asked on Twitter how Koza Ipek’s $600 million in cash and $20 billion in mining assets could be acquired by a comparatively unimpressive entity. Metro Holding’s capital comes to just over $95 million.
