Children from across the globe meet in Germany for peace
Forty-six Turkish schools across the globe leave crowds in Germany in awe with their performances during the 13th International Language and Culture Olympics held in Germany.

The talents of 360 students from 46 schools were on display for the crowd of 10,000 gathered at Westfallenahlle complex. The opening ceremony featured figurines symbolizing prominent capitals across the globe including Brussels, Paris and Berlin.
“We hope that this voice rising from Germany will spread across four corners of the globe,” stated host Kemal Gülen.
The Language and Culture Olympics Coordinator Halil Ursavaş said, “We hope the shining light of love and tolerance being sent tonight from Germany will enlighten the world and Turkey.”
Two-time candidate for German presidency, Dr. Gesine Schwan, recieved an award honoring his contributions for forming bridges between cultures.
The highlights of the show included the Tree of Life collage performed by 48 students, and students from Madagascar performing the Turkish folk song of “Dert bende.”
Twitter users protest plan to close prep schools in Turkey
Turkish Twitter users are in an uproar over a report that the government has drafted a law which would close thousands of private preparatory education centres (known as “dershanes”) across the country. The schools are reportedly a point of tension between Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government and the Gülen movement that runs many of the schools.

Police and inspectors raid Gülen-inspired kindergarten in Manisa
Police and inspectors from several government departments have carried out further raids on Gülen-inspired schools, including a kindergarten in Manisa, as part of a government-led operation targeting the faith-based Gülen movement, popularly known as the Hizmet movement, influenced by the teachings of Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen.

We strongly condemn the arrest, detention and deportation of some Nigerian students from Turkey’s capital city, Istanbul, over the botched coup in the country. The harassment and intimidation of our students by the Turkish Government over a matter that does not concern them is undiplomatic and utterly reprehensible. The Turkish government should not visit the punishment for the alleged actions of its political enemies on innocent Nigerian students.
