Afghan-Turkish schools win six medals at int’l olympiad

Afghan-Turkish schools, established by Turkish entrepreneurs affiliated with Hizmet Movement, won six medals – four golden and two silver – at an international olympiad.
Students from two of the Afghan-Turkish schools which have been operating in Afghanistan for 20 years participated in Mathematics without Border Olympics. At the end of the olympics, students who competed with 1,300 students from 29 different countries won four golden medals and wo silver medals.
To congratulate the students, Kandahar Governor Turyalev Visa received them. Visa praised Turkish teachers saying that they should share their experiences in teaching with Afghan teachers.
Bekir Cinar was working as an assistant professor at the political sciences department of Suleyman Sah University when it fell victim to the crackdown. He says that many academics with different views were working at the university. Cinar is currently continuing his scientific work at a British university. He considers this a major loss for Turkey, not least because it takes 20 to 30 years to become an academic.

A British law firm hired by the Turkish government has launched a defamation campaign in Washington against the Gülen movement, using the Turkish government’s narrative, part of the ruling Justice and Development Party’s (AK Party) unceasing witch hunt against the faith-based movement in Turkey and abroad.
‘Don’t link Thai schools with terrorists’
Thailand’s foreign ministry has cautioned against any rush to link four Thailand-based schools to a terrorist organization just because they have a handful of foreign shareholders. “We have been in touch with the embassy to request legally recognised and reliable evidence. But we have not received any additional information to date,” Thai foreign ministry spokesman Sek Wannamethee, said yesterday.

Laotian President Sayasone hosts Turkish school officials
Choummaly Sayasone, the president of Laos, has hosted officials from a Turkish school in the country at the presidential palace, saying that the Turkish school is a gift for their country.
