Islamic scholars convene at ijtihad symposium in İstanbul

ISTANBUL
Around 100 Islamic scholars from many parts of the world gathered at İstanbul Congress Center at ijtihad conference organized by Yeni ümit and Hira Magazines.
The two-day long symposium will focus on issues on ijtihad on Islam. Professor Suat Yıldırım will chair the symposium.

These statistics are even more appalling when one considers the horrible prison conditions and extent of torture in post-coup Turkey.

Thousands pay final respects to Gülen’s brother in Erzurum
Seyfullah Gülen, who died at the age of 72 on Friday and was the brother of Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, was laid to rest in a funeral attended by thousands of people in the eastern province of Erzurum on Sunday.
Prosecutor says he was blocked from investigating new graft probe
After the [Turkish] government took a new graft probe from prosecutor Muammer Akkaş – a move that could further cast a shadow over the corruption investigation – he told media that the case was taken from him without any reasons being cited, effectively blocking him from doing his job. “All my colleagues and the public should know that I have been prevented from doing my duty,” the prosecutor said in a statement sent to media outlets on Thursday.
