The Journalists and Writers Foundation (GYV), in a written statement, has denounced some media outlets’ labeling the body a “traitor” over its attendance at the traditional lunch meeting of the EU ambassadors.

The statement criticized the allegations published in some media outlets which “in an effort to distort the truth and smear the foundation” said the GYV betrayed the country by attending such a meeting.

The statement said: “Our chairman, Mustafa Yeşil, was invited to the traditional lunch meeting of the EU ambassadors on Dec. 19. The meeting in question is periodically organized — every month. Such organizations include briefings by experts from various branches and were previously attended by many nongovernmental organizations as well as representatives of the government; thus deeming attending such a meeting a ‘treason,’ ‘spying,’  ‘disloyalty to the country’ or a ‘cooperation with international organizations’  and publishing it this way is nothing but a defamation against the foundation. Despite presence of all the details on our website — which we shared on our website following the meeting — some media outlets kept assaulting the foundation with impunity. The accusations that we are exposed to do not reflect the truth whatsoever.”
