The outstanding contribution of law enforcement officers was recognized at an award ceremony in Morristown, New Jersey.
The Peace Islands Institute’s 5th Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Award united community members with law enforcement personnel.
According to Aaron Ford Special Agent in Charge with the FBI, such events and community input really help officers do a better job.
Among the recipients was Special Agent Daniel Garrabrant who was awarded for his rescue of victims of human trafficking and slavery.
Deputy Chief US Attorney in New Jersey Caroline Sadlowski was also awarded for her role in establishing a program that facilitates the transition of convicted felons after incarceration.
The Peace Islands Institute is a non-profit organization that unites different points of view in an atmosphere of mutual respect and acceptance, while fostering better insights into social problems.
In Pennsylvania, Gülen and his aides scrambled to denounce the coup attempt as it unfolded. “As someone who suffered under multiple military coups during the past five decades, it is especially insulting to be accused of having any link to such an attempt,” Gülen said in a statement, referring to Turkey’s spotty democratic history. The U.S. also was quick to condemn the coup attempt, but not quick enough for many in the Turkish government and media.

Before Fatih Ozcan, the Mississippi representative for the Dialogue Institute of the Southwest, moved to the United States in 2002, he didn’t fully recognize the importance of communication between different cultures. The nonprofit organization, which follows Islamic scholar and social advocate Fethullah Gulen’s teachings of tolerance and mutual understanding, was in development in Houston when Ozcan first became involved.

The U.S. is also treading very carefully on the Gülen issue. The movement has been Turkey’s top lobbyist on Capitol Hill for a decade.
4 Turkish charity organizations on OCHA’s Nepal list
Four Turkish humanitarian aid organizations including Kimse Yok Mu, the Prime Ministry’s Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD), the Turkish Search and Rescue Team (AKUT) and GEA (Mother Earth) have been placed on the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ (OCHA) list of teams providing humanitarian aid in the devastating Nepal earthquake.
