The Peace Islands Institute’s 5th Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Award

The outstanding contribution of law enforcement officers was recognized at an award ceremony in Morristown, New Jersey.
The Peace Islands Institute’s 5th Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Award united community members with law enforcement personnel.
According to Aaron Ford Special Agent in Charge with the FBI, such events and community input really help officers do a better job.
Among the recipients was Special Agent Daniel Garrabrant who was awarded for his rescue of victims of human trafficking and slavery.
Deputy Chief US Attorney in New Jersey Caroline Sadlowski was also awarded for her role in establishing a program that facilitates the transition of convicted felons after incarceration.
The Peace Islands Institute is a non-profit organization that unites different points of view in an atmosphere of mutual respect and acceptance, while fostering better insights into social problems.
Texas enjoys International Festival of Language and Culture
Around 3,000 people attended the 14th edition of the International Festival of Language and Culture, formerly known as the International Turkish Language Olympiad, in the US state of Texas on Saturday.

As the Turkish Consulate gets ready to set up office in Hyderabad, Neeraja Murthy finds a Turkey-Hyderabad connect. Indialogue Foundation, the Turkish cultural centre acts as a hub for the 15 Turkish families living in Hyderabad. “We get together here during religious ceremonies like Eid and we organise inter-faith seminars, talks, conferences and cultural programmes. We arrange business meetings between Turkish and Indian businessmen and also organise Turkish celebrations.”
Tamsil: The inadvertent overspill of internalization
Gülen says, “Where you are [your ego], He is not; where you are not [your ego], He is.” In the Naqshibandi Sufi order there are four steps to reaching spiritual enlightenment “forget [forsake] the world, forget the [rewards of] the afterlife, forget your ego, forget [all these acts of] forgetting,” lest being conscious of them risks making one proud. So forgetting, or in the case of tamsil, not being aware of or intending to show or guide from the outset is key.

What do Alevis want?
Alevis have been traditionally considering themselves a minority because their interpretation of Islam differs from the state’s understanding. In such a climate, the Abant Platform organized [a Gulen Movement affiliated organization] a three-day-long meeting by Lake Abant over the weekend, bringing representatives from the Alevi and Sunni community. Personally, I learned a lot from the meeting which almost served as a channel for venting for Alevis.
