The International Justice Conference Hailed A Major Success

Prof. Manuel A. Knoll, from Department of Philosophy, Fatih University in partnership with the support of Abant Platform organized an international three day event regarding pluralism and conflict. Over 50 academicians from around the world got together for ‘Distributive Justice Beyond Rawls and Consensus’ Conference in Fatih University, Istanbul on June 6-8, 2013. Conference was attended by some of the well known scholars in their fields such as; Prof. Giovanni Giorgini, Bologna University, Prof. Harun Tepe, Hacettepe University, Prof. Ulrich Steinvorth, Hamburg University, and Prof. Jonathan Wolff, University College London.

Abant Platform believes strongly in engaging with intellectuals to contribute to the field of Justice. In today’s challenging environment in Turkey, it’s increasingly important for NGOs to partners with academia to work on justice to advance democracy and human rights. This conference featured distinguished speakers who discussed a variety of topics, ranging from conceptions of justice to social equality and severe disadvantage to pluralism and the idea of conflictual consensus.

First keynote speaker was the Vice President of Fatih University Fahrettin Gucin who welcomed the participants. Tolga Aksoy, Vice General Secretary of Abant Platform, informed guests about Journalists and Writers Foundations mission and its events. Prof. Manuel Knoll and Prof. Harun Tepe from Hacettepe University presented a paper on the historical background of the conception of Justice. Another keynote speaker Prof. Giovanni Giorgini presented a paper on ‘Imagination and Conflict: After Stuart Hampshire’ in the conference.

Gülen slams pro-gov’t media for disseminating lies and blasphemy

Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen criticized on Monday the pro-government media in Turkey for spinning the truth and disseminating lies while trying to justify senior officials’ blasphemous remarks. In a speech published on herkul.org, Gülen said a true believer can never lie as lying is the characteristic of the non-believer.

Kyrgyzstan: Antagonism Grows with Turkey Over Gülen Links

In the eyes of the government of Turkey, where Gülen is from, the sprawling building immaculately cast in the bright colors of the red Kyrgyz flag is little short of an incubator of terrorism and plots to subvert the state. Ankara’s antagonism to Gülen’s international influence has deep roots, and the Turkish government’s attempt to link the educator with the recent failed coup is intensifying that animosity. But Kyrgyzstan, which is host to at least a dozen Gülen-linked schools and one university, is holding its ground — up to a point.

Can a Post-Coup Turkey Get Along with Europe?

None of this has stopped the government from undertaking a huge, self-destructive purge, with around 10,000 people arrested, 100,000 people dismissed, and the seizure of assets of more than $4 billion, numbers that worry not just human rights activists but foreign investors as well. The government’s fury is understandable but it should distinguish between those who took part in the coup and those who simply belonged to the Gulen movement.

Opposition does not believe Gulen movement was behind the coup attempt

Dr. Kadir Akyuz of University of Bridgeport, CT, USA has carried out a poll to find out who the general public believe was behind the bloody coup attempt in July 2915. According to his results, opposition does not believe the Gulen movement but it was conspired by the “deadly combo” of Tayyip Erdogan and Dogu Perincek.
