A conference titled “Ideal Human & Ideal Society in the Thoughts of M. Fethullah Gülen,” seeking to extensively discuss the various dimensions of the Turkish Islamic scholar’s perspectives on an ideal society in a tumultuous time, started on Tuesday in Lahore.

A dinner hosted by the chief minister of Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, at Lahore’s Pearl Continental Hotel opened the conference. The conference continues on Wednesday at the law department of Punjab University. The main speaker of the day is well-known Muslim scholar Muhammed Çetin.

In a press conference held at the University of the Punjab in Lahore on Monday, Professor Dr. Liaqat Ali, the acting vice chancellor; Assistant Professor Maria Maldonado, director of International Linkages; Harun Köken, chairman of the Rumi Forum; and Hakan Yeşilova, editor-in-chief of The Fountain magazine, disclosed the details of the conference.

Professor Ali told reporters that the University of the Punjab had conferred an honorary doctorate on Gülen on May 17, 2012, in recognition of his contributions to education and peace, and that this conference will be a follow-up event.

Dedicated to exploring Gülen’s ideas on diverse issues, the conference will feature speakers and participants from a number of countries, including Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the US.

Pak-Turk schools hold graduates moot

The school administration believes that the action is taken to appease Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who believes that the school promotes and teaches his arch-rival and cleric Fetullah Gulen’s teachings. “We have gone through the school curriculum during our time and have not found them imparting any extremism ideology or anything that goes against the interests of Pakistan,” said one of the graduates.

Not only will the Maarif Foundation be unable to accomplish anything conducive and rewarding, it will not be able to prepare the required generation of youth with open-mindedness and critical thinking.

Imran Khan denounces expected closure of Pak-Turk schools

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan condemned the expected move to close Pak-Turk schools across the country.
“We stand firmly by Turkish democracy but closure of Pak-Turk schools in Pakistan, which has a high illiteracy rate, could be disastrous for the country,” he said.

Peshawar High Court halts government order to deport Pak-Turk school staff

Petitioner counsel Qazi Muhammad Anwar argued that all the Turkish teachers are very peaceful people who have committed no crime in Turkey as well as here in Pakistan.” He prayed the bench to suspend the federal government’s notice and stop deportation of the Turkish teachers and their families. The bench accepted the request and restrained the deportation of Pak-Turk schools’ staff.
