Fethullah Gulen’s Message of condolence for Muhammad Ali

I learned with grief the passing of Mr. Muhammad Ali, an individual who was dear to hundreds of millions of people around the world for his achievements in sports, strength of conviction, amicable personality and philanthropy.

Through his professional accomplishments as well as his standing up for his beliefs, Muhammad Ali served as a role model and a source of hope for youth living in difficult conditions around the world.

Following his boxing career, despite his regressing health, Muhammad Ali dedicated himself to the causes of human rights, hunger, poverty and disease.

Muhammad Ali showed his indiscriminating sensitivity to the plight of sufferers around the world by standing with them and supporting them. He was never indifferent to any charitable cause brought to his attention.

After the September 11 terrorist attacks, Muhammad Ali made statements and engaged in activities that helped restore the image of Islam.  He not only condemned the terrorists but also declared to the entire world that they are fanatics who do not represent any religion.

He only accepted the allotment of a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame on the condition that it was put on a wall so that the name Muhammad would not be stepped upon. The star on the wall became a symbol of Muhammad Ali’s principled stance for his values throughout his life.

He left behind a beautiful legacy.

I pray for mercy and forgiveness from God the Merciful for the deceased. I send my condolences to his family and loved ones, and wish them peace.

Right now, all critical voices are silenced in Turkey and only the voice of those in power is heard. Consequently both Turkish people and outside observers are misled. The misperception about the coup continues because there is only one voice. The government interprets everything according to their calculations. They are using this event to express the antipathy they already had against Hizmet movement. The coup attempt is serving to justify their plans to persecute Hizmet movement.

As a practicing Muslim deeply influenced by tenets of my faith, I strongly condemn the brutal atrocities of the ISIS terrorist group. Their actions are a disgrace to the faith they proclaim and are crimes against humanity. Religion provides a foundation upon which to establish peace, human rights, freedoms and the rule of law. Any interpretations to the contrary, including the abuse of religion to fuel conflicts, are simply wrong and deceitful.

Countering Violent Extremism Symposium draws significant participation

Jointly organized by Intercultural Dialog Platform and Gulen Chair at Ku Leuven in Brussels, Belgium, Countering Violent Extremism: Mujahada and Muslims’ Responsibility Symposium was attended by some 400 including academics, opinion leaders and NGO representatives.

Turkish preacher isn’t running terrorist gang

Given the popularity of the Hizmet across the world and lack of evidence that Gülen is indeed linked to terrorism, I believe it will be unequivocally impossible to confirm that the movement is a “separatist terrorist organization,” as claimed by the Turkish president. Gülen always makes a broad social critique of violence, terrorism and racism, while promoting social justice, harmony and peace.
