Followers of Multiple Faiths Join at Columbia University for Iftar

An iftar, a religious ceremony that breaks the fast of Ramadan with a gathering of people, brought together followers of multiple faiths in New York.
According to Cihan, Columbia University hosted an iftar, inviting eminent members of the community to join.
Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore’s daughter, Karenna Gore, and Indonesian religious leader Imam Shamsi Ali were among the world-renowned guests who attended the event.
It was organized by the Peace Islands Institute (PII), the New York Interfaith Center and Columbia University’s religious studies department.
With the recent terrorist attacks and ISIS running rampant throughout the Middle East, distorting the Muslim faith, this unity shows that in many other parts of the world people are making attempts to combat the violence and hate.
Additional political attendees were New York State Assembly Member from Manhattan Richard N. Gottfried and diplomats from the United Nations.
INTERPOL and U.S. reject baseless charges against US-based Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen
INTERPOL apparently indicated in its decision that it did not recognize the “parallel structure” as a illegal or terrorist organization. In other words, the charges against Gülen appear to have been fabricated based on his political activity. His case is widely viewed as part of a government crackdown on dissidents and political opposition, as described here. U.S. officials have also thus far refused to extradite Gülen back to Turkey.

The room at the Istanbul Cultural Center just off the FSU campus is filled with both men and women and lots and lots of children. Many of the women are wearing colorful headscarves and long buttoned coats. And most of the men are their husbands, some associated with the university as teachers or students, and others who have taken time away from their own professions in Turkey to accompany their wives who are completing graduate studies here.

Int’l symposium in Washington D.C. to discuss Hizmet’s contribution to world peace
An international symposium under the name of ‘The Hizmet Movement and PeaceBuilding” will be held on Oct. 25-26 in Washington D.C. In attendance at the symposium organized by Georgetown University, American University, Mount St. Mary’s University and the Rumi Forum will be numerous academics and scientists from more than 20 countries in six continents.
