Mining disaster victims commemorated by Senegalese students

DAKAR –

Mining disaster victims, who lost their lives in Turkey’s deadliest mine explosion which took place in southwestern Turkish city of Manisa’s Soma district, commemorated in Senegal. Flags have been lowered to half-mast at the Yavuz Selim Eğitim Kurumları (Yavuz Selim Colleges), operating in the fields of education in Western African country of Senegal, also one of the prestigious tuition foundations in the country.

Soma mine pit disaster, which has caused 299 mine workers to have been killed, was commemorated by the students of Yavuz Selim Colleges in Senegal’s capital city of Dakar.

Oğuz Arslan, college principal, made an explanation regarding the mine tragedy and said that they heard the mine disaster with a deep sorrow. “On the day of the accident our Senegalese colleagues, tutors and our students came here to convey their condolences. We share the grief of those who lost their loved ones in de disaster and may God mercy to them,”added Aslan.

Aslan also conveyed his condolences and good wishes to relatives of disaster victims.

Like in Turkey, tragic Soma mine explosion caused great sorrow in Senegal too. There were many emotional moments in a commemoration program which was organized by the education volunteers in Senegal. Wearing miner helmets and placards in their hand that read “Your Pain is our pain” Senegalese students stood a moment of silent those workers who lost their lives in heart-rending tragedy.

In the meantime, BDP Co-chairman Selahattin Demirtaş struck a similar tone to the prime minister regarding the prep schools’ closure, saying that prep courses must be shut down. Demirtaş said the closure is a political as well as commercial issue, casting doubts on the government’s desire but expressing his approval at shutting down prep schools.

Kimse Yok Mu Foundation President Ismail Cingoz announced: “We are not leaving Somalia because of the terrorist attacks targeting Turkey.” Cingoz had talked to the volunteers in Somalia once again before the announcement. He reported they were grieved at the terrorists attacks but felt no concerns or fears as they knew the condition the country was in when they first arrived. He further stated that they will carry on with their services against all the odds.
