ANKARA

Prominent Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen‘s lawyer Nurullah Albayrak filed a criminal complaint against Twitter users Gizli Arşiv, Wake Up Attack and Yeşil Operasyon for “setting up an organization for criminal purposes” on Friday.

In the criminal complaint, which was filed at the Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office, it was written that suspects were claimed to have committed a crime by “tapping phone calls, and [making] audio and visual recordings [of] Mr. Gülen illegally.”

Albayrak said that the same alleged organization recording Gülen might have been behind the tapping scandal that broke out before the 2011 elections involving Republican People’s Party (CHP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) members. He added that Gülen’s phone calls were wiretapped, but the recordings were edited. He said these “suspects” are in close contact with politicians.

In the complaint, it was written that this organization’s main purpose is to spread fear among people by wiretapping their private phone calls and later using the information gathered.

Gülen has recently filed a libel suit against Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for remarks Erdoğan made about him in recent speeches, which Gülen’s lawyer says are full of derogatory and inappropriate remarks.
