The Concerned African Youth against Tyranny (CAYAT) has denied report that the Fethullah Gulen Movement and Hizmet Movement are terrorist groups.
National Coordinator of the organisation, Mr. Musa Shaba said yesterday in Abuja that contrary to claims by the Turkish government the movement has become the face of Turkey in Nigeria and Africa.
“Hizmet movement has established a number of successful schools, hospitals, peace-promoting centres, charity organisations, and has in the process built strong relations with local business, religious leaders and political elites in Africa. It has consequently become the face of Turkey in Nigeria and the entire continent,” Shaba said.
He said the waves of crackdown on Hizmet in Nigeria and other countries will not only be an affront to the nations’ sovereignty but will also make the Turkish government risk alienation as Hizmet developmental activities continue to impact positively in Nigeria and other countries in the region.
We are going through a very critical period. We need the common sense and support of all the precious members of the Hizmet movement as we have never needed them before. We must protect our democratic gains. I pen this article as a person who closely sided with the Hizmet movement during the attacks of Ergenekon — a clandestine organization nested within the state trying to overthrow or manipulate the democratically elected government — and the deep state, and who backed its justified objections to the government’s plan to shut down the prep schools.
